Dr. Rodanthi Elisavet MAMOURI attended the EarthCARE Validation Workshop that took place in Tokyo, and which was jointly organized by JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) and ESA (European Space Agency). Two posters were presented at the workshop: “Tracking the 2025 Limassol Wildfire Smoke Plume: Combined Observations from CARO and the EarthCARE Mission” and “One Year of EarthCARE ATLID Level 2 Validation at CARO, a Coastal Ground-Based Observatory in Cyprus” (the latter presented on behalf of HP). The workshop included dedicated sessions covering each one of the satellite instruments (ATLID, CPR, MSI, BBR), fostering instrument-specific discussions, intercomparisons, data-sharing and informs about best-practices and upgrades on algorithms that facilitate the cal/val activities, all of which directly support ECoE/CARO’s activities on EarthCARE’s calibration/validation and the CORAL – Cyprus Observations for EarthCARE vALidation project, in which the team is involved. On the final day, the session “Validation Discussion and Recommendations” provided an opportunity to consolidate findings, identify outstanding needs, and establish common guidelines for future validation activities. These outcomes are essential for improving product quality, strengthening coordination between partners, and ensuring that CARO’s contributions effectively support the broader EarthCARE cal/val framework.
