On 26 September 2026, the Atmosphere team of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence (ECoE/CARO), together with members of the ATARRI EU project, took part in European Researchers’ Night (ERN) in Nicosia, organised by the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) of Cyprus. The team presented the hands-on experiment “CARO’s Lidar in a Glass: Observing the Atmosphere with Laser Light”, which simulated CARO’s atmospheric lidar in Limassol. Visitors also played educational games: the “What aerosol type are you?” quiz, atmosphere trivia cards, brainstorm memory cards, and laminated photos of CARO’s instruments. The stand also featured a playful one-page leaflet on the department and the Earth’s Atmosphere and ATARRI banners.
The activity directly supports ATARRI objective S01, “Raise public awareness about atmospheric and solar radiation physics”, through an open public event. ATARRI gained direct engagement with students and the general public and wider national visibility at a flagship RIF event. It also gained a reusable outreach toolkit for future events and school visits. Through these educational activities, the event also increased the visibility of ECoE/CARO and its atmospheric research, and introduced young visitors to atmospheric science as a possible career path. https://www.instagram.com/p/Dd01d9jIQPw/?hl=en
