ACTRIS Conference 2026

From the Eastern Mediterranean to the heart of Scandinavia! 🌍✈️

Our Atmospheric Cluster recently returned from a highly successful week at the ACTRIS Science Conference 2026 in Oslo, Norway (April 20–23). Led by our Cluster Leader, Dr. Rodanthi-Elisavet Mamouri, our team of researchers showcased the cutting-edge atmospheric work being conducted right here in Cyprus.

Our PhD students took center stage, contributing to the global dialogue on climate and atmospheric science:

Oral Presentation -> Konstantinos Chrysostomou delivered an insightful talk on Aerosol-Cloud Interactions:

“Aerosol-Cloud Interaction analysis study using the Dual-FOV Polarization Lidar approach at contrasting aerosol conditions over Limassol, Punta Arenas and Dushanbe”

Poster Presentations: Cal/Val of Satellite Atmospheric Missions

Our team is playing a crucial role in the validation of the EarthCARE mission:

Maria Poutli: “EarthCARE satellite mission: Validation of L2a aerosol products using CARO ground-based measurements in the Eastern Mediterranean”

Aspasia Pallikaridou: “Assessing EarthCARE’s aerosol products (MSI, ATLID) using ground-based sunphotometer and lidar data over Cyprus”

Georgia Charalambous: Assessment of Satellite Cloud Optical Thickness Retrievals and characterization of cloud variability using pyranometer network data” (presented by Dr. Rodanthi-Elisavet Mamouri).

Award Alert! We are incredibly proud to announce that Maria Poutli received a Student Poster Award! This recognition highlights the excellence and impact of her work within the international scientific community.

Beyond the presentations, the conference offered a great opportunity for networking between the atmospheric scientific community of Europe. As the Cyprus Atmospheric Remote-Sensing Observatory (CARO) is a National Facility of ACTRIS-ERIC, these collaborations are essential for advancing our collective understanding of the atmosphere.
