On 11 March 2026, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS) successfully conducted the 4th Virtual Training (VT4) on Dust Modelling within the framework of the ATARRI project and the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence (ECoE). This session focused on the advanced evaluation of dust forecasts using AERONET and in-situ observations, providing participants with technical expertise in interpolating modelled Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) with ground-based station data. The curriculum covered the evaluation of dust optical depth at 550nm using the Providentia Dashboard mode, as well as the analysis of coarse dust optical depth at 500nm through the Providentia Library mode. The training culminated in a hands-on workshop where participants evaluated a specific dust event by comparing MONARCH model outputs with AERONET observations, utilizing either the interactive Providentia dashboard or specialized Jupyter Notebooks for high-fidelity data plotting and scientific interpretation.
