Strengthening Collaborations & Launching ACTRIS-Next!

We were honored to welcome Dr. Mikhail Paramonov, Project Manager at @ACTRIS-ERIC, to our Atmospheric Cluster on May 11th!

The visit provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Cyprus Atmospheric Remote-Sensing Observatory (CARO), an active National Facility of ACTRIS. Dr. Paramonov toured our specialized Observational platforms for:

  • Aerosol Remote Sensing
  • Cloud Remote Sensing

A Milestone for Collaboration

This visit marks a significant step forward in our collaboration with the ACTRIS network, serving as a vital bridge toward our upcoming activities under the ACTRIS-Next project (HORIZON-INFRA-2025-01-DEV-03).

What is ACTRIS-Next?

Officially launching on June 1st, 2026, for a 54-month duration, ACTRIS-Next improves ACTRIS leadership by advancing interoperability, sustainability, and global integration. It strengthens the capacity to meet emerging atmospheric and societal needs through co-designed services for health, environmental resilience, and the energy transition.

CARO’s Contribution: The Solar Energy Application Pilot

We are thrilled to announce that the ERATOSTHENES CoE and the ATARRI team will host and implement the Solar Energy Application Pilot (SP6)!

Led by Andreas Kazantzidis (University of Patras), this pilot study in Limassol will:

  • Evaluate the feasibility of novel services tailored to the solar energy sector.
  • Provide validated spectral irradiance products and refined aerosol/cloud datasets for solar forecasting.
  • Develop operational tools based on the specific requirements of the PV community.

The pilot will utilize the CARO National Facility and our Solar Radiation station observations, both co-located in Limassol old town. We are ready to embark on this journey toward smarter, greener energy solutions!
